He was born 27 Feb 1916 in Smithfield, Utah the second of five children of Nathan James and Martha Melvina Weeks Thornley. He married Thelma Albiston on 14 Dec 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was a life long resident of Smithfield. He attended elementary school and graduated from North Cache High School where he excelled in academics. After his marriage, he and his wife worked together to establish one of the outstanding dairy farms in the state of Utah. He served for many years as a member of the Cache Valley Dairy Board of Directors. He received many honors associated with his farming abilities including being named Cache Valley Outstanding Dairyman of the Year. He loved to work with the youth and spent many years involved in 4-H program and worked tirelessly in raising funds to support the Boy Scouts of America. He was an active member of the LDS Church and at the time of his death was a High Priest in the Smithfield Second Ward. He and served in various positions. He was a dedicated home teacher who brought a positive spirit to those he served. His family was the center of his life and he often spoke of his love for them.
He is survived by his wife of Smithfield; one daughter, three sons and their spouses, Harry and Rhonda Gephart of Tremonton; Dennis Thornley of Smithfield, Paul and Bonnie Jean Thornley of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Lyle and Kathy Thornley of Logan. He has 10 grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother and two sisters and their spouses, Eva Parkinson of Logan; Glen and Ruby Thornley and Charles and Faye Jensen both of Smithfield. He has preceded in death by his parents ad one brother.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 27 October 1994 at 12:00 noon in the Smithfield 2nd Ward Chapel, 175 South 100 West, with Bishop Charles Godderidge conducting. Friends may call Wednesday evening at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the mortuary from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
